find the pH
« on: October 13, 2007, 06:43:04 PM »
25 mL of 0.1 M HCl are titrated with 0.15 M NaOH. After 17 mL of the base are added, what is the pH of this solution

i did this so far:

mmol HCl--> 25 ml * 0.1 M= 2.5 mmol
mmol NaOH--> 17 mL * 0.15M = 2.6 mmol

        HCl + NaOH ---> NaCl + H2O
initial 2.5     2.6              0      0
final             0.1            2.5

i know i have to use the pH = pka + log base/acid formula.

is this right so far?

i know i have to use the pH = pka + log base/acid formula.

Only for weak acids/bases. Here you have strong acid and strong base. The one in excess determines solution pH.
