Thin layer chromatography
« on: October 30, 2007, 07:19:39 AM »
I need help about this technique. I've been using TLC to separate glucocorticoids and I've used radioactivity for this. I know that there is people that scrap the gel, but I think with radioactivity, the scrapping is not a good idea. Anybody knows any other method to obtain the component?
Thank you very much!!!!

i am not sure whether you are using preparative thin layer chromatography plate or normal TLC  plates. if it is normal TLC plates i think it will be difficult to scratch the gel and use. but if you are using preparative TLC plates there is no problem in scratching and recovering your compound, though it is a radioactive one. this is the only way out. you have also not mentioned what is the isotope you are using and what is the level of activity. if handled properly there wont be any harm using this technique even for radioactive samples.
