Assay of fluoroquinolones
« on: November 22, 2007, 12:16:11 PM »
Is it possible to assay fluoroquinolone chemotherapeutic agents as acid-base titration since it contain caroboxylic acid group?
or is it better to use Non-aquous titration? i think ciprofloxacine for instance is stronger than weak acid, isnt it?
also what is the best way to assy nalidixic acid?
2-how is fluorometric assay of tetracycline is carried out?
3-how are triphenylmethane dyes are assayed quantitativly?
4-what is the main idea for assaying acridine dyes quantitatively too?

I appreciate any help.

Dear AhmedEzatAlzawalaty;

(Hello once again.)

Independent of the Pharmacopoeias, I would all do it with UV/Vis Spectroscopy!
Disadvantage:  You need a reference product.
Advantage:      You are very specific and have at the same time the Identity.
(In case you use the Spectrum instead of  “Single Wavelength” measurement.)

Disadvantage of Titration:
-   Absolutely unspecific and very influenced from other Acids and Bases.
-   You need an additional Identification (It’s required for Pharmacopoeias!).

Quintessence:
It depends very, very much on what your goals are.

I hope it may be of a little help to you.

Good Luck!
