What is the reason why hydrocarbons are not soluble in water?

Is it because the C-H bond is nonpolar?

The C-H bond is very slightly polar, but over-all hydrocarbons are typically non-polar.

I need to know the best answer to this question. My choices are :

They are hydrophilic
The C-H bond is nonpolar
The C-H bond is polar
They are large molecules
They are lighter than water

So its actually because the C-H bond is polar?

Are they hydrophilic? I need to know why they are insoluble

hydrocarbons are hydrophobic (lipophillic).

yes, I realized they were hydrophobic right after I wrote that. I get phobic and phillic confused for some reason.
Thanks

You are correct that the best answer of those choices is that the C-H is non-polar. It is technically wrong though. There are lots of molecules with polar-bonds that over-all are non-polar, and vice-versa.
