Actually this is a bit related to biochemistry too
« on: December 28, 2007, 09:06:42 AM »
umm... I'm quite new around here..
Can anyone please answer the following buffer question for me.. I need to be sure about my answer to it. :)

A buffer of pH 7.4 is to made by using M(OH)2 (pKb1=3.0, pKb2=6.9)and MCl2 salt. Approximately calculate the mass of solid MCl2 (the relative mass=200) that has to be added toconvert 100mL of 0.10M solution of the base, M(OH)2 to a buffer of pH 7.4.
Is the answer is 4g? :-\
Thankyou,
Shani.

Show your work. Intuition tells me you'll need more that that.
