Chemisrty Equation involving KMnO4,S and Al
« on: January 02, 2008, 05:04:02 AM »
Hey, my friend wants me to find out the equation for KMnO4+Al+S---->??
Im stuck though. I think Manganese oxide is a product or Al2O3 . I don't know whether the sulfur in this reaction is in single form or S8. Thanks for your help.

I am sorry, but in order to answer that correctly I would require additional information.  If you are unsure of the reactants then I would not be able to predict the products.  Ask your friend for some more 411.

These reagents may give many different reactions, and redox reaction with a few independent reaction has many different solutions, eg
KMnO4 + Al = KAlO2 + MnO2
2KMnO4 + S = K2SO4 + MnO2
Any combination of these two reaction can give you different solutions.

At very high temperatures Al can reduce MnO2 to MnO or metallic Mn
