A question on PLANT EXTRACTIONS.
« on: December 30, 2007, 07:23:24 AM »
Our investigatory project for this year is entitled "The Antimicrobial Effect of Helianthus annuus on Escherichia Coli". I will be needing H. annuus extracts. I understand that there are a number of types of extracts and extraction methodologies. Which type of extract must be used for microbial assay? And which methodology should be used? A link would be very helpful ^___^. Thank you!

Depends what chemical your trying to extract.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

so, basically you're testing the effects of the sunflower plant on E. coli. You have to be more precise on the chemcal you want...
Or you could mash up the plant into a pulp and spread that over the E. coli. Just a thought.
