Copper protection for PCB
« on: January 06, 2008, 02:54:52 AM »
hi
The copper layer of a homemade pcb quickly oxidises after the print is removed. How can i prevent this ? I have heard that varnish is good but which one??

One more thing is when we buy a copper laminate the copper layer is nice and shiny and it doesnt oxidise. How can i obtain the same finish after etching ??

Dear Josey.Mathew;

One of the cheapest varnishes for homemade PCB’s is “Cellulose Lacquer” known as “Zapon”.
Advantage:Zapon” melts/destroys during later Soldering, and is normally very cheap.
I always diluted it with 4 till 10 parts of Acetone to get very thin layers.

I hope this may be of help to you.

Good Luck!

Dear Josey.Mathew;

Cellulose Lacquer” known as “Zapon” I buy normally in a Drugstore or Chemist’s shop (in German: Drogerie).
Sometimes also Art/Craft Shops/Suppliers sale this kind of stuff.
I don’t know what best compares in India to these shops.

Zapon” is based on “Cellulose Nitrate” dissolved in Ethyl Acetate, Ethanol, Amyl Acetate, etc.
You may get additionally Information on:   "Nitrocellulose
(It may be also of help for discussions with shop owners.)

I hope you can find a supplier of such stuff.

Good Luck!
