Help with a problem?
« on: January 15, 2008, 09:52:41 PM »
A graduated cylinder with 18mL of water will contain 18g of water, which equals one mole of water molecules. If each of these water molecules were enlarged to the size of a soccer ball and each of these soccer balls were stacked side-by-side on a football field using only the inbounds area (100.00yds by 60.00 yds), how high would a mole of soccer balls reach in kilometers? Assume that all soccer balls are identical and are exactly 27.5 inches in circumference (1 inch= 2.54cm) Show all calculations.

This could get mildly complicated or rather simple. Just search for sphere packing on google on your favorite search engine and learn. There are many ways to approach this. So if you have discussed one type of packing in class I would chose that one; other wise just do whichever is mathematically easier for you.
