Volume of water @ different stages (liquid, solid and vapor)
« on: January 13, 2008, 10:12:53 AM »
Given an ice cube of 1in of height, 1in of width and 2in of lenght.

1. what is the volume of the ice cube?
2. what is the volume of H2O liquid water at STP? (the same ice cube melted)
3. What is the volume of the vapor at STP (the same ice cube melted and now vaporized)

NB: As a side note, it is the same ice cube we started with that went thru the 3 stages

Thanks a lot

Cute question they've given you, covers a lot of diverse topics.

1).  Doesn't even use chemistry.

2).  Needs to give you water's expansion on freezing, that one's kinda hard to find, I once went nuts looking for it myself.

3). PV=nRT, and STP fills in a bunch of values for you.

Best of luck, show us what you have.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

The mass is constant, you can just use the different densities to find volume change.
