« on: January 31, 2008, 06:45:11 PM »
can anyone help me to turn this equation to a net ionic equation
it is balanced on both sides and if you dont mind listing the steps too
I would really really appreciate your help and once again Thanks =)

First of all correctly balance above reaction. Should be MnO2 instead of MnO3
14KMnO4 + 3C3H8O3 = 5K2CO3 + 14MnO2 + 10H2O + 4KHCO3

or (when reaction is warmed):
14KMnO4 + 3C3H8O3 = 7K2CO3 + 14MnO2 + 12H2O + 2CO2
Oxygen can be evolved only during heating from a thermal decomposition of KMnO4

For iopnic equation -  remove all spectator ions, in this case only K+
