Precipitate? What's the forula?
« on: February 03, 2008, 11:21:11 PM »
How many grams of NaN03 will precipitate if a saturated solution of NaNO3 in 200g H20 at 50 Celsius is cooled to 20 Celsius?

I think I would use a formula to solve it but our notes doesn't have anything on this. I looked in the textbook, but didn't really understand it. What formula do I use to solve this?

what do you know about the solubility NaNO3?  What have you learned about how temperature effects solubility?

Rabn points you to qualitative explanation, if you need quantitative - you have to look up solubility tables in something like CRC handbook.
