Diazomethane is a very hazardous chemical!  If you don't absolutely need it, don't make it.

You can handle it well in diluted solution (pure diazomethane is a gas). Of course safety measures are obligatory. My main problem was, that I didn't know the exact concentration of the solution I prepared...

True, but even in solution it is shock sensitive and can detonate if it comes into contact with a rough surface.

I know it even with glass stoppers it might explode but I don't mind it!!! Because I am going to try to make it in stiu!!! And what about the other diazo-alkanes??? DiazoButane maybe???

I have prepared it from diazald (see Aldrich) using a diazomethane kit.  This has smooth glass joints.  The result is a solution in diethyl ether.  Titration will benzoic acid can determine the final concentration.

However, I recommend a solid suppored diazomethane equivalent:

I'd rather be in the lab!

Titration will benzoic acid can determine the final concentration.

...if CH2N2 would stay in solution.

Actually I need to make diazo-butane or diazo-ethane for an alkylation of a very precious molecule for the syntheis of a new D2 dopamine agonist (ergoline type) and if you know ergoline chemistry they are very precious and fragile!!!

Thanks!!!
