phosphorus pentachloride
« on: February 08, 2008, 10:34:26 PM »
I can't solve this problem? Does anybody help me out?

"Elemental phosphorus occurs as tetratomic molecules, P4. What mass of chlorine gas is needed for complete reaction with 299 g phosphorus to form phosphorus pentachloride?"

Always start with a balanced chemical reaction, e.g.

x P4 + y Cl2 --> z PCl5

you should be able to figure out x, y, and z.
