I got a charge out of theis job opportunity sent to me by Southern Energy.  They then follow that with ststement of EOE....The next description sent out was quite difffferent....attached too..

They do things with a certain STYLE in the SOUTH...and I do mean that in the most affectionate and complimentary way..

JOB SUMMARY

Perform quality control functions associated with the various laboratory programs.  This includes sample receipt, tracking, validation, and reporting; sample kit preparation; monitoring of applicable regulations governing laboratory analysis; and laboratory procedure auditing.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS


Education Requirements:

Bachelors or Masters of Science in Chemistry is required. Course of study ACS approved.

 

Experience Requirements:

At least 1 year of analytical laboratory experience; some quality control experience, especially in the environmental field is preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of water chemistry

Knowledge of quality control techniques

Excellent communications skills, both written and oral

Good computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Access and Excel

Knowledge of State, Local, and Federal Environmental Laws governing drinking water, wastewater, and hazardous waste monitoring.

JOB SUMMARY
This position will provide support for analytical laboratory testing needed to determine water quality, coal quality, limestone quality and oil quality for the Southern Company System. It also provides the opportunity to analyze organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties, composition, structure, relationships, and reactions, utilizing gravimetric, spectroscopy, and spectrophotometry techniques. In addition, it will support laboratory research activities including the development of new laboratory analyses and the analyses of unique research samples.
 
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
-Compile and analyze test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency and to diagnose malfunctions.
-Prepare test solutions, compounds, and reagents to conduct analytical testing.
-Confer with experts and supervisors to conduct analyses of research projects, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests.
-Keeping data records, logs, databases, inventory, analytical procedures and paperwork current.
-Troubleshooting any inaccuracies assessed through quality control techniques
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS
 
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science degree is required (must have or will obtain by December 2007)
 
Experience Requirements
-Work experience (2-5 years) desired
-Experience with calibrating, testing and verifying the accuracy of all testing equipment using appropriate testing procedures
-Basic laboratory skills including the use of analytical balances, wet chemistry, and theoretical applications of chemical analysis and instrumentation
-Experience in use of computers including data entry and data management skills, i.e. spreadsheet, data retrieval, etc.
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Work experience in a laboratory environment to determine various chemical compounds and elemental compositions from various matrices; Experience in performing compound analysis using various computer equipment and lab equipment and verifying the accuracy of the reports through duplicate testing and quality control testing; Experience with maintaining laboratory equipment; Calibration of analytical instrumentation; Use of a variety of different software programs such as spreadsheet and data acquisition . Proven knowledge of how to follow lab procedures and testing methods; Experience with sample preparation techniques; Experience using spectrophotometers, XRD, or XRF; Experience in environmental laboratory;  Experience with microscopy

Heh.  Nice of them to put it in writing.  That's pretty much what an interview is for isn't it?  To see if you have the right personality for the workplace?  They can't really check your qualifications right there, can they?
