What type of reactions are involved when an acid is added to a solution containing SO3^2- ion, resulting in the release of gaseous SO2?

Acid base reaction?

electrochemical reaction, or reduction-oxidation

??? Do you mean these are different things?

terry33199: sulfurous acid is a weak one.

hahaha no no!!!! is the same:) that was my point: "you can call them electrochemical or red-ox, without difference"

if one of the products is SO2 where S have oxi. number 4 then it differs from the one in the H2SO4 where is 6. or S is oxidised
