BALANCES
« on: February 22, 2008, 10:18:52 PM »
Hi, I am trying to get my head around the lowest weight that can be accurately weighed on a 5 figure balance.
(if the error associated with the weight is 1%)
I know there is a calculation for the error associated with the weighings based on the number of decimal places (ie the lowest accurate weight on a 4 figure balance is higher than the lowest weight able to be weighed on a 5 figure balance
Can anyone throw some light on this
Thanks
Rosie

On a 5 dp balance the smallest deviation is 0.00001 g. If you take this as the 1% value then 0.00100g is the smallest weight which can be measured with a 1% accuracy.

Similarly, on a 4 dp balance the smallest deviation is 0.0001 g. If you take this as the 1% value then 0.0100g is the smallest weight which can be measured with a 1% accuracy
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
