gas law questions, partial pressure
« on: March 21, 2008, 02:22:20 AM »
1.  a tank has 46L of O2 at 1atm, 25 celcius
another tank has 12L He at 1atm, 25 celcius.

they are both pumped into the same 5L tank, what are the partial pressures of each?

so i tried doing this problem and i got 1.88 mol O2, and .491 mol He... im not sure what that will do.. i have too many variables to solve for

2.   why couldn't the tank hold pure oxygen or oxygen nitrogen mix?

Calculate total pressure in 5L tank now. Then split this pressure proportionally to molar fractions of gases

or calculate pressures in this tank separately for each gas.
