What mass of water..
« on: March 22, 2008, 02:27:30 PM »
What mass of water could be heated from 20 degreec celsius to 35 degreees celsius by the burning of the 2.57 mol of methanol? (C H2O = 4.184 kJ/Kgdegrees celsius) to 2 decimal places.

here is what I have so far please help me continue

m=?
Delta T = 15 degrees Celsius
n CH3OH  = 2.57 mol
CH2O = 4.184

There are two aspects to this question:

1) How much heat is generated by burning 2.57 mol of methanol?

2) Finding the amount of water that could be heated by this amount of heat.  For this part you'll need to rearrange the equation q = mcΔT in order to solve for mass.
