concentration cell
« on: March 24, 2008, 05:41:41 AM »
Consider the following cell diagram
Zn(s)|Zn2+(0.10M)||Zn2+(1.0M)|Zn(s)

The half-reactions are
Oxidation: Zn(s)-->Zn2+(0.1M)+2e-
Reduction:Zn2+(1.0M)+2e- -->Zn(s)

The overall reaction is
Zn2+(1.0M) -->Zn2+(0.10M)

Question
From the overall equation, does that mean only the Zn2+ in the 1.0M
compartment will change grafually its concentration to 0.10M??

Then how about the diluted compartment with 0.1M Zn2+?? will the concentration also be changed?
