Is it true that magnesium sulphate makes complex with alcohols and amines so that we should use sodium sulfate for drying these compounds.

How is Mg different from Na?  What are their charges and what structures do they have?
MgSO4 is a weak Lewis acid, how might that effect acid sensitive compounds?
