electrophilic aromatic substitution

Is there a reaction that allows for example ClCH2CH2OCH3 to attach directly to benzene?

something like a Friedel-Crafts alkylation

any links you can share would be appreciated :)

I think you could use F-C for that reaction.  Otherwise, you might be able to do a Suzuki coupling or something.

Why not use phenyl Grignard and ethylene oxide followed by etherification with methyl iodide though?  That'd be easier, I think.

Heh, I've never done one myself, but people who have tell me that they tend to work pretty well.  I think that they are relatively easy as far as cross-coupling reactions go because the aren't particularly water sensitive, etc.
