Reaction N-formamides with amines
(1/1)
HP:
Hi
I am asking for the possibility of reaction N-formamides(RNHCHO) with primary amines to yeld N-formyl imines(like Shiff's bases). If possible such reaction to which amine athom will be formed the double bond after dehydratation ???
R1NHCHO + R2NH2 = R2N=CHNHR1 +H2O (1)
or
R1NHCHO + R2NH2 = R2N=CHNHR1 + H2O (2)
Thanks in advance
AWK:
Amidynes can be obtained from nitriles and salts of ammonia or amines by heating.
This method is rather not applicable to formamidines (HCN is very toxic)

Thanks for the reply AWK
Yes i know the reactions for the preparation of aldimines and particulary formamidines but i was wondering why the reaction of primary formamides with amines in aqueous media dont work analogiously as it works with aldehydes and amines forming Shiff's base... May be its because the NH athom close to the CHO group -and thatsbad for my purposes ;)
