« on: April 15, 2008, 04:44:04 PM »
hey can anyone please help me? I am doing experiment in which I am looking for the amount of Nickel in hair dye by using ICPMS or GFAAS. I know I can prepare my sample by digesting it but I am not sure wether should I use nitric acid or any different acid? Does anyone know if someone already done the similar type of experiment? could someone help me with this? Thanks

Please take a look at this site.  It is specifi to sample preparation-helping you make the appropriate determination-based on analytical method/technique.

This link takes you to Reliable Measurements-An Introduction to Sample Preparation.  Please also see the index on the right:

ICP-OES and ICP-MS are both addressed here:  http://www.ivstandards.com/tech/reliability/part04.asp#top

I am also attaching a copy of the EPA Laboratory Method SW 846 3015 (pdf). Which addrresses SAMPLE PREPARATION FOR METALS ANALYSIS BY MICROWAVE DIGESTION.

Additionally, I am attaching some pdfs that compare AAS to ICP-OES and one document that compares all 3 methods.
