transition element help???
« on: April 23, 2008, 12:26:37 AM »

i don't understand any of this

Using the group #9

RELATE the chemical and physical properties of the transition elements to to their electron configurations.

PREDICT the chemical behavior of transition elements from their positions in the periodic table.

Go to this link:

http://center.acs.org/periodic/tools/PT.html

This is a periodic table provided by ACS.  Click on the electron configuration tab at the top.  Then, find the elements of interest in the table and click them on and you can see the electron configuration for each.

Make sure you write out the electron configuration for each of the remaining elements.

Group 9 Tranisiton Elements:

Cobalt: Co

Rhodium:  Rh

Iridium:  Ir

Meitnerium:  Mt

In order to relate the physical properties to their electron configurations use the following:

http://center.acs.org/periodic/tools/PT.html

Click on each element of interest in group 9 and note all the chemical and physical characteristics.  What trends do you see?

This link will also give you useful information regarding the chemical and physical properties for the Group 9 transition metals.  Click on the elements in Group 9 of the table provided.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transition_metals

based on the periodic trends and electron configurations try to assess the chemical behavior of the Group 9 transition elements.

Note: for most of this information you don't have to leave Chemical Forums - just click Periodic Table link in the navigation menu on the left :)
