Chem Report on MS Word
« on: April 28, 2008, 02:28:09 PM »
I need some help.

I'm trying to write a Chemistry report on MS Word, but I can't figure out how to write the chemical symbols for some elements.

For example, I'm attempting to write Helium's, but the best I can do is: 42He

Is there any way to get the 2 directly below the 4, or is the above considered standard?

Thanks!

You can do it with Math Type a program available in Word.  But I don't know how in Word.  Or try it in ChemDraw or IsisDraw and import it.

How would I go about using MathType?

Its an additional program but it runs through word.  You may be able to download it free.

Or a trial version.  My university has it already.

MS word has an equation editor that can do superscripts and subscripts in that way.  In word 2007, it's under the inserts tab next to insert symbol.  I remember Word 2003 also having the equation editor.

In older versions of word, it will be under Insert/Object/Microsoft Equation Editor #.#
But, it is not always installed by default.

However, do you have to include the 2 in Helium? If your professor says so, do it. But it is really quite redundant.
