How to burn hydrogen continually ?
« on: May 31, 2008, 03:00:11 PM »
Iv got some emerging  2H2  and O2

Emerging rate is about 5 l / h

Is tease 2 elements reaction with each other ?

If
- How fast ...
- Pressure and reaction speed
- .

When i try to light it then it is exploding... how i can burn it continually, can i collect these 2 elements.

I do not need exact answers, i need working ones. (slow, fast ... ), comparing to something.

Thank you!

OK ... Ill make it simple.

How you are slowing down reactions . Reactions like explosion (extremely fast), how i can bring it to slower state... burning.

It there any mechanical configuration ?
Maybe i can speed it up by using area difference. So il get intensivety

What is simple gas burning configuration. How it look mechanically.

How that will affect if ill increase density in output by using pressure.

How will affect 2H2  and O2 to compress them ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_motor

I was always under the impression that the configuration of the nozzle was important.

You use different nozzle setups depending on if the type of fuel (i.e. oil versus natural gas).

Note that hydrogen has a greater range than natural gas in which it can ignite as far as percentage with the oxidizer.

I got this kit but have not used it yet

So I am not sure if this is the answer

U gave me answer i wanted to get  ;D  Thanks !

I have heard about rocket engines, that Russian engine made during cold war, to start "star wars" was way better that any others.

Americans thought that it was impossible to achieve.
My titza told me about it ... that it was almost 100 % effective by using it it power plant.

I really do not remember how it was achieved, but i guess it was due increasing pressure by using turbine.

But it is not what i need atm.

How to increase pressure in output... coz i need it for intensive burning. (intensivety = small area, big pressure and speed)
I'm pretty sure that i can see the flame what is hard to see co its hydrogen.

But if ill try increasing pressure then ill love emerging rate i guess and so war im not planning building a compressor.

Emerging rate is about 5 l / h

You need a nozzle with an orifice that will release the fuel at a rate slightly less than the emerging rate.

Or you need to pump it into a tank and use it later under pressure

That is the point i cant store it  :o Dont ask why i just cant.

I even do not know can i compress these 2 elements or no.

I need  to test to experiment but on the other hand its clean hydrogen its way too dangerous.

But yea guys thank you for replies, it helped me much.

Next thing ill build will be volume what is hermetic, what can handle some pressure.
Anyway im not going to increase emerging rate, coz its dangerous :-\ .

There are formulas for calculating the flow rate for an orifice diameter for a given pressure.
Assuming ambient pressure and emerging flow rate you have already given, you can calculate the diameter.
I do not have the formula handy but maybe you can Google it.
In any case my gut feeling is that it would be a very small capillary in size.
Maybe someone will help you with the math and formula.

By the way I agree that hydrogen can be very dangerous. So, keep your experiment small.
