Preservative In Emulsion
« on: June 17, 2008, 11:21:14 PM »
Hi,

I am in the process of gathering ingredients for my formula. It uses 50% sodium citrate in water. I have figured this is actually Trisodium citrate and is used for a preservative.

I have been searching the internet for a supplier but haven't found much (trying to narrow my search to within Australia if possible). I have found this.

http://www.pathtech.com.au/pathtech/home/consumer/catalogue/stainsandsolvents/06/20.sok

It is a Trisodium citrate solution 3.28%

I am a little confused but have a feeling this isn't what I am looking for? As I am looking to make a solution that is 50% is that correct or does it mean this solution needs to be broken down a further 50%.

Any advice appreciated.

Joel

You should be able to find solid sodium citrate dihydrate, it is a common reagent. Check out lab suppliers.

http://buy.ecplaza.net/search/1s1nf20sell/trisodium_citrate.html

the above is a chinease manufacturer - they sell it in 25 kg bags. They might ship you a bag if you ask them nicely.

If you tell them you might buy 3 tonnes of it they might even give you a 25kg bag free as a sample... ;)
Tonight I’m going to party like it’s on sale for $19.99!
