PDB, pH drop
« on: June 21, 2008, 07:23:29 AM »
Hallo all,

I have worked with PDB(potato dextrose broth) for a while now and I have noticed that when I heat the PDB (sterilizing in autoclave) that the pH of the solution drops.

I was wondering if somoene could explain this.
I personnaly think its just because of the heat that will destroy some chemical structure inside the PDB or that the heat might stimulates some chemical proces that is causing this pH drop.
(something to do with the dextrose? )

But I cant exactly say whats causing it. Or is it impossible to simply state: its this mechanisms.. thats causing it..?
