IUPAC naming of this compound
« on: June 23, 2008, 01:27:47 PM »
Hello,

I am having some difficulties with naming.  Could you please verify that I have this name correct?

                                   CH2CH3
                                   l
CH3CH2CH2CH2CHCH2CH2CHCH3
                     l
                     CH2
                     l
                     CH
                    /    \
                 CH3   CH3

I am hoping this compound is 2-ethyl-5-isobutylnonane.

Thank you

OH YES... silly me I forgot to make the longest chain possible. Therefore this is a derivative of a decane.

THANK YOU!!!
