Magnesium oxide - Reaction in Soultions assignment
« on: June 26, 2008, 09:09:11 AM »
If magnesium metal is left standing in air it will acquire a coating of magnesium oxide...

First   Write a chemical equation that would represent this reaction of magnesium metal with oxygen.

then  Write a balanced chemical equation that would describe the effect that acetic acid would

1. Mg + O ---> MgO

2. MgO + CH3CooH ---> H2o + Mg(CH3COO)2

Does that look alright?

Hey!

Oxygen exists as diatomic molecule.

2nd equation is correct but unbalanced.
No matters what results are waiting for us, it's nothing but the DESTINY!!!!!!!!!!!!
