Purifying H202
« on: July 11, 2008, 09:08:50 PM »
Hi I am trying to get a more concentrated solution of H202.  I have been to many stores but can only find 3%.  Is there a procedure I can do that I can remove water from the H202 to raise the concentration above 3% ?

I am doing an experiment with a potato, and I need 6% h202.  I am infecting the potato and keeping it contained for a few days.  Some reasearchers say that 3% can kill the infection, but I have tried and it hasn't.  I am trying to see what concentration of h202 it will take to kill the infection.

Sparging would probably work best and be the safest method because the other methods are either dangerous or, in the case of freezing, will yield you a pretty highly concentrated h2o2 solution, which is inherently dangerous.  Is there a reason you can't just buy some more highly concentrated h2o2 of known concentration and add water?

I have tried.  I have gone to pharmacies and chemical supply stores in my area and none have any available.  I would like to know a bit more about this sparging method.  I looked it up and it seems that it would not yield great results unless I had access to better equipment.  What about freezing?

If you're just trying to go from 3% to 6%, why is not yielding great results a problem?

Well I am hoping that 6% will work.  If it does not then I will have to move up again.  What I am wanting to know is more about a reliable, safe method.

Many hair products got hydrogen peroxide solutions I think. But Im not sure how strong.
No single thing abides, but all things flow.
Fragment to fragment clings, and thus they grow
Until we know and name them.
Then by degrees they change and are no more
The things we know.
