I have been trying to find this and have had no luck yet.  Hopefully someone here can assist.


I know the mechamisn of the reaction btw an aldehyde and Schiff's reagent.  Does a Ketone react similarily with Schiff's reagent?

If an aldehyde forms:

NH-CHRSO3 groups attached to a benzene ring...

Does an ketone form...

NH-CHRR'SO3   groups on the benzene ring?

Schiff's test allows you to distinguish between an aldehydes and a ketones.  It reacts with an aldehyde, but not with a ketone.  Helps for unknowns.
