Asymmetric Hydrogenation with Baker's Yeast
« on: August 07, 2008, 07:07:35 PM »
I'm interested in carrying out a hydrogenation reaction of methyl acetoacetate and I'm following a prep outlined in P. Besse et al./Tetrahedron: Asymmetry 10 (1999) 2213-2224..

The reaction is carried out by stirring together 1 g of the ester, 40g of Baker's yeast (I purchased Fleischman's brand, from the local grocery store), and 500mL of water.

There is no mention of any work up procedure. Is it a simple organic/aqueous work up?

Thanks
