Varian Galaxie
« on: August 29, 2008, 01:50:31 PM »
I am considering the purchase and implementation of Varian's Galaxie data collection software for the lab I run.  Mostly GC work with some process analyzers mixed in.

Has anyone had dealings with this software?  If so, would you say interaction is positive or negative?

Any input would be welcome.  Thank you for your time.

Regards

However, impressions are not favourable.

Thank you for your input.  It looks like I may be better served with another data package.

The limiting factor I am battling is that my predecessor purchased a Varian 4900 Micro GC, so I am looking for software to run it...  Empower looks promising.

We are running Empower 2 Enterprise (server based), but I have previouslly worked with millennium 32 (v4) and Empower 2 as workstations.

Unfortunately, all my work was basedwith LC, I've not had any experience with Empower and GCs.

Dear Me

I worked in customer support of Varian Instruments for 8 years. I do not like Galaxie. A personal Opinion!

Use their Star Workstation. It's better. By the way, do you plan to use it with 4900 Micro GC?

I am the local expert on it!

If you haven't made a purchase yet, Agilent are in the process of acquiring Varian, and their (Agilent's) EZChom Elite lists the Varian CP-4900 Micro GC in the Instrument compatibility list

we have several CP 4900 micro GC's running with Galaxie. It's a little quirky sometimes but has proven adequate. The units themselves are very robust.
