balancing complex equations and finding volumes
« on: September 11, 2008, 05:39:09 AM »
1) why is it incorrect to alter the chemical formula when balancing a chemical equation?

2) write and balance equations for the following reaction:

a) zinc sulphate + barium nitrate---> Huh?
b) gold(III) sulphate + barium chloride---->Huh??
c) zinc + mercurous nitrate ----->Huh??
d)tin + antimony(V) chloride----->Huh??
e) calcium + water--->Huh?
f) ferrous bromide + phosphoric acid---->Huh
g) the complete combustion of ethene C2H4---->Huh
h)calcium carbonate + hydrobromic acid---->Huh?

10 a)how many grams of sulphuric acid will neutralize 10.0 g of sodium hydroxide?

b) what volume of water vapour at 100 celcius and 110 kPa would also be produced?

for the 1 i wrote it is because that the chemical formula will be of no use or it wont be in correct accordance to the chemistry law

P.S. correct me if i am wrong
and rest of them i hav no clue
give me a link or something tat i may tackle these type of question easily
for my test

hey abi2004,

for 1) If a chemical formula is wrong, it does not represent the actual reaction taking place, and may lead to incorrect stoichiometric ratios if u are to used in calculations.

for the rest, show your attemps so we could correct for you! You could refer to your notes, or googling on acid base reaction aka neutralization, double displacement reaction, metal reaction with acid and so on for writing out equations.

No matters what results are waiting for us, it's nothing but the DESTINY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chemical formula describes reagent taking part in the reaction. When you change formula, you are in fact changing reagent, either to completely different, or to non existing one.

It is like borrowing a book from library - if you want to read "Rip Van Winkle" by "Washington Irving" you can't ask for "Rip Irving" by "Washington Van Winkle", as you will either not get anything, or you will be given book that has nothing to do with the one you wanted.
