Decomposition Help
« on: September 15, 2008, 08:53:01 PM »
Back in the day people applied heat to substances and if they seemed to decompose they were compounds, if not they were elements.

Explain why water and salt weren't classified as compounds then and why sugar and malachite were in detail?

Please read forum rules.

Does water decompose on heating? Does sugar decompose?

and it says there is no evidence that water and salt decomposed.. why did they not notice any?
