A redox equation that I just can't get
« on: September 21, 2008, 10:39:29 PM »
Fe(OH)2 + H2O2 --> Fe(OH)-

I think I got the iron right with
2e- + Fe(OH)2 --> Fe(OH)- + OH-

I guess the issue is that I'm having a hard time seeing where the oxidation bit occurs. It seems like the iron is going from +2 to + 0, and the oxygen from - 2 to - 4... two reductions.

helllo,

your iron product is wrong, H2O2 is acting as an oxidizing agent.

But the problem is saying that it's Fe(OH)-... did my teacher goof up?

Looks like. Could be a typo.
