Where to Buy Gallium?
« on: September 23, 2008, 08:28:28 AM »
Hi,

I know this might seem a bit like a googletard but I'm looking to buy a small amount of Gallium (between 100grams and 500grams) at a reasonable price. From my initial search I found one place, Goodfellows, which wants to charge €709 for a 50g sample. This is surely ridiculous since the market price is roughly €350 per kg!!.

Another thing I should mention is that I need it delivered to Ireland so that might cut down on the number of suppliers. Additonally it doesn't have to be high quality, 99.9% or whatever is fine, not the 99.9999999% required for the semiconductor industry! If any of you know of any good suppliers, holla!

Thanks,
Eamon

Alfa is almost always cheaper than Goodfellow. Most of those operations buy from a Chinese company or perhaps some large aluminum slag refiner which handles such residues, purify in house, and then repackage and markup.

I've seen gallium on ebay and labx usually for about a dollar per gram for 4N material.

I would offer you some of my own, but I'm positive that gallium must be shipped by sea and not by air (I'm not in Ireland).
Neither flask nor beaker.

www.niftymetals.ecrater.com

They have it there at a very reasonable price, averaging a little less than $2 per gram. a 50 gram sample is $90. a 30 gram sample is $59.

I'm thinking about buying some myself. The purity is probably not over 99.5%, but I don't care. I just want to mess around with it. Maybe trick my girlfriend into thinking that I have some sort of X-men-esque super powers (she's not the brightest bulb on the tree). Applied chemistry.  ;D ;D
