Need help----about N-P bond
« on: April 15, 2005, 09:31:19 PM »
Dear friends,
Would you please help me? My boss asked me to bind a marerial which has amine terminal to phosphocholine. He think it is possible to bind the two materials together through N-P bond. But I don't think so.
The chemical structures are list in the attached file.
Thank you very much.
sincerely,
yuanyi

Normally, the N-P bond is stronger than typical single bond due to the interactions between (N) p-orbital (also hybridized orbitals) and (P) d-orbitals, so, the N-P bond has double bond character.

However, in your case, I am not sure that these interactions are effective enough as P has alreadly formed 4 bonds.

Thank you very much. Yes, I agree with you.
It is possible  to bind the following materials together (I found some papers to support this idea),  but not the two materials that my boss asked me to bind.
But I can't find any papers to overturn my boss's idea.
