Lead and acrylic paint?
« on: March 29, 2012, 10:43:28 AM »
Hi, i hope this question is in the right place?

I wanted to know if it is safe to use small lead sinkers as agitators in pots of acrylic paint? i.e. putting a small lead sinker in there, so that when you shake the paint it assists in mixing it. I'm wondering if the lead will dissolve into the paint at all? Not planning to eat the paint :) but sometimes i will run them through an airbrush...

I don't have any specific knowledge about the exact formula of the paints i'm using unfortunately. I might be able to find out more if its of critical importance. Thanks in advance :)

The details on the paint are of critical importance. Let's start with oil or water based? Regardless, I'd recommend a coating on the lead, as it is soft and prone to chemical attack, but the coating may need to vary with the paint.

Thanks for the reply, the paint is water based.
