A compound with 4 carbons and a bromine would be?
« on: May 14, 2005, 08:40:52 AM »
I'm starting this telecourse and not quite sure what this prof wants...
He's not too clear on the notes and I want to be sure.
Would a compound containing 4 carbons and a bromine be a butamine?
I'm pretty sure a compound containing 4 carbons and an iodine would be named iodobutane...but for the LIFE of me need help with the 4 carbons and a bromine! *delete me*

unless your professor meant bromobutamine which contains 4C, 1Br and 1N.

Ye Gads! He really IS NOT clear...and this is NOT suppose to be organic chemistry! lol
It's just a touch on it and that is it...sent notes and that was it...I"m to fill out the papers and mail them back...only going by notes of his that are extremely unclear, so I've smuggled a book (Intro to Chemistry~HS level) from a friends child! lol
That was all the question posed..."A compound containing 4 carbons and an bromine would be named...."
He didn't get into N (thingies)... ???

I would just suggest that you start giving him a long list of terms followed by etc. etc. to show him how poor the question is.   ;D

1-bromobutane
2-bromobutane
1-bromobutene
2-bromobutene
1-bromoisobutane
etc.
etc.

I think he'll get the idea.   ;D
