Article Requests?
« on: April 22, 2005, 01:24:46 PM »
Does anyone have any suggestions for an article topic?  I've been wanting to write something for the site in the field of organic chemistry, but I don't know what people would find the most useful.

Suggestions are welcome!

organic-mercury compounds! I've been reading the mercury vapor thread, and the idea of dimethylmercury has me quite intrigued. Not that I'd ever play with it. I like living.

a thorough article on stereochemistry would be useful.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

I don't know a whole lot about organomercury chemistry.  Nasty stuff.  Not too many people do it anymore because it's so dangerous.  It's too bad though, since mercury does do some useful reactions.

I was thinking stereochemistry too.  Maybe I will start on that.  Could be a long article though!

Yeah, I did have an article going about mercury as an element, but my motivation for doing it just kind of died.  What I'm thinking of doing is putting together an article detailing how to make various elements for element collectors out there, but unfortuneately I don't have the apparati needed to make good photographs so much of it would just be text.  I am itching to write something, however, so once I get a good idea I'll probably just go with it.

Maybe get into the 'why' of magnetism? How it works, measurement, what elements are good magnets, that sort of stuff?

i think an article on the role of solvents in organic chemistry would be interesting. most people think that the solvent hardly affects the pathway of the reaction, but we know this is far from true.

That's a great idea.  I'll keep it in mind, but I think the stereochemistry topic would appeal to a broader audience.

I have a list now!

Sorry Corvettaholic, I know nothing about magnetism.  Maybe someone else could tackle that one.

"why?"...maxwell's equations.
