Want to Know what these three VOC's have in common
« on: November 01, 2008, 01:15:41 AM »
I was wondering if anyone can tell me what these three hydrocarbons have in common with each other, other than that they are flammable and they are produced in the gasoline industry. Is there some specific way they are linked?

methylcyclopentane
1,3 pentadiene
Isooctane  (2,2,4-Trimethylpentane)

Nothing jumps out at me.  You can try Googling for any of the websites on "organic chemical structure", many of them will take the name, and draw the structure for you, and you can see other similarities.  Otherwise, you've pretty much summarized it yourself -- hydrocarbons, gasoline industry, flammable.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
