Chiral point groups: Cn and Dn point Groups
« on: November 06, 2008, 03:46:43 PM »
Hello,

After finding all the point groups that MUST be chiral: C1, Cn's,Dn's, and T, O, and I. I am still having trouble finding examples of these. Does anyone know where I can find a site or database that lists examples of molecules corresponding to point groups. I have found a couple but they only go up to point groups C5 and D5.

Not to sound confusing I need to know of several examples of Cn and Dn and I point groups that are chiral? I have found examples of point groups from C1-C6 and D2-D4 but after that it gets complicated and I have been searching for weeks. Here is what I found so far:

C1: CHCLFBR
C2: H2O2
C3: Triphenyl Phosphine
C4: Calix[4]arene
C5: (5)-rotane--not sure
C6: a-cyclodextrin
C7:?
C8:?

D2: [Cu(en)2]2+
D3: [Co(oxalate)3]3-
D4: Cl3CCO2K--not sure
D5:  ?
D6:  ?
D7:  ?
D8:  ?

T: [Ga4L6]12-
O: -[Co[(OH)2 CO(NH3)4)3]6+
I: ?

Thank you so much.

P.S. Does anyone know of any free downloadable programs that might help with symmetry and point groups?
