« on: November 09, 2008, 02:15:23 PM »
I don't know if I have just been up too long tonight or what, but I can NOT get this thing balanced.

Fe2O3 + CO --> Fe + CO2

Well, you can only balance oxygens in multiples of 2 on the right side.

You already have 4 oxygens on the right, which means you need 2 CO2 on the left.

But now you need two carbons on the left, which doesn't work, because that gives you 5 oxygens on the left (2 from CO and 3 from Fe2O3), which you can't do, so you *Ignore me, I am impatient* it up to 3 CO, which you can then balance on the right with 3 CO2

Or, alternatively, you can go here, lol:

The general idea s to get the poster to get to this stage, not to spoon feed answers
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
