A reaction implying gold
« on: November 15, 2008, 11:04:42 AM »
Hi,

What would be the reaction between gold and  aqua regia (an acid mixture containing 36.5 % HCl and 63 % HNO3) in order to obtain H[AuCl4] ?

Ask google.

I tried to search on Google, Wikipedia and IUPAC and I haven't found the proper reaction. Indeed I found some general information such as the appliances of the reaction, chemical factories where it tajes place, some youtube videos, anything but what I needed.

Wiki article on aqua regia contains the information you are asking for. Mechanism involves nitrosyl chloride.
