back titration
« on: November 29, 2008, 07:35:16 PM »
Hi,

I am having some troubles in understanding back titration. So I am not really sure what is the purpose of back titration? do we choose to use back titration based on the reactants? is there a specific rule, where we have to use it?

Thanks

Never been to that site before, nor did I read it, but a quick glance seemed to indicate it should answer your question.

From what I know is when the rate of reaction between analyte and standard is low and/or heating is needed to complete the reaction, the back titration is employed.

For the volumetric analysis of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), it was suggested to add an excess standard NaOH , heat, cool down and perform back titration with standard HCl
