In my lab class we dehydrated cyclohexanol using simple distillation. Once we got our product in the collecting flask. We used distillation again but this time short path. I have no idea why we did two types of distillation. The first time we were instructed to keep the temperature below 100 celsius. The second distillation we were instructed to keep the temperature below 83 degrees celsisus. Could a reason be to make sure a pure product is obtained.
