1,4-dimethylcyclohexane gauche interactions
« on: December 16, 2008, 10:53:13 PM »
If its 1,4-dimethylcyclohexane with each methyl axial how many gauche interactions would there be, I'm a little confused It's usually 2 interactions for each axial methyl and 1 for an equatorial unless its 1,4 then its none ?  So what is it for 1,4 diaxial ?  please help.

Draw the chair structure.  If you still can't see it, draw Newman projections.
